The Price of Being Right

The faintest of cries
I turned a deaf ear to
Faced the music
As I waited for you.

The pleas, the whines
Drowned out to time
Blinded by hope
Fooled by the mime.

Blissful, unaware
Sword over my head
Hushed the silence
To let be misled.

Waded to depths unknown
Muted screams, a hushed echo
Lauded my patience
Laughed at the truth.

What could go wrong?
They'd tell me to fight
Little did I know
The price of being right.

I was the jest
Just wasn't in the know
I wish I could say
I told you so.
