Social Networking and Youth

Adding a friend,
Is such a pain; pathetic
game requests they send,
The selfies make me go insane.
Lots of pics,
My friends will boast,
Trending topics,
And sponsored posts.

That is Facebook
In a nutshell my friend.

This one is even better,
Want someone's number?
'Are you on WhatsApp?'
Is definitely smarter
For once they get your number; they
Add you in groups and spam all day.

That is WhatsApp
In a nutshell my friend.

Got a crazy topic,
That you wanna share?
Just hashtag it
and put it up there.
Within no time,
It'll spread like air,
But don't forget to follow,
Else, nobody shall care.

That is Twitter
In a nutshell my friend.

Believe it or not, I wrote this poem. Its crude but you get what I wanna say.

'The world is vast and meant for wandering. There is always somewhere else to go.'

These words of Nick Burd are absolutely true and if we come to think of it, we as individuals cannot reach out to a population of 7 billion+ people.

This is where social networking steps in. Social networking occurs through various social media such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and the list goes on and on. Although all of these respective media serve different purposes, they have one common goal; connecting the world.

Thanks to Facebook and Twitter, any thought of yours will reach millions on the internet.

The best part about social networking is that it is not restricted to a certain age group. Young and old alike can avail these services.

But what is intriguing is how these social networks have affected the youth. Teenagers spend most of their valuable time chatting away or posting selfies or watching funny cat videos on Facebook. While some see it as a way of conveying their thoughts to the world, others use it as a mere source of entertainment and to while away time.

Social networking can be a very powerful weapon and can be used positively to help our nation progress. If however used unwisely, it will lead to the exact opposite.

I would like to conclude my rant by saying that, social networking can either be a boon or a curse to the youth depending on how they decide to use it.
