This is a very vague post. It is my guide to survival in
life as a whole. What may or may not help you in the long run, how to get past
the tough times, how to develop an optimistic point of view, etc. is what I'm
gonna try to fit in this post. This will also help you understand how I think, how
I perceive a situation and deal with it. So let's survive!
Step 1:
Be optimistic.
It is very important to have a positive attitude. Even when
you know you're failing or you have lost a lot, you should stop all thoughts
for a while, and think about all the good that has happened and assume that
something good will happen to you in the future as well. This does not mean
that you should shun all feelings of sadness regarding your failure but at the
same time, remember that failures are stepping stones to success and that's
right where you're headed.
Step 2:
Be hopeful.
Hope is a 4 lettered word that carries an abstract concept
of something undefined which gives us a reason to rejoice or feel happy during
bad times. Hope however isn't in abundance. You have to harness whatever you
can find. Collect the bits and pieces and you’ll realise that life isn’t as
miserable as you think it to be.
Step 3:
Observe:
Life is full of patterns. Everyday events have something to
show us which we often fail to notice. I won’t say that you should leave all
your work aside and observe every minute detail of life. Observe the things
that are important. Notice a pattern. Adjust yourself according to it. Life
often offers us situation that can only be solved by what you observe. For
instance, In Mumbai, the average time for which a train stops at a railway
station is 20 seconds. This isn’t a great deal if you’re on the platform on
time waiting for the train. But if you’re the late runner who likes to play
things pretty close to the chest then you will realise that if you can reach the
train within 20 seconds, you can sprint accordingly and make it to the train
before it leaves the station.
Step 4:
Make choices:
You can’t have everything in life. There is nobody, not even
Bill Gates or Warren Buffett who has everything in life. Life gives us choices.
Difficult, easy, one, many are some types of choices that we have to make. It’s
essential to think carefully before we choose but make it a point to choose. Who
knows you might regret not making that one choice that could make you a
successful person in life.
Step 5:
Be brave:
You make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. Nobody is
perfect. That’s not the point. The point is to make a mistake and face the
consequences. (This does not apply for criminal activities. Do not try this at
home.) And it’s not just a mistake, it can be anything, any act of kindness,
love that you’d want to do but you can’t because you’re afraid of the outcome.
For instance, you don’t let the world know your idea because you think it is
stupid. The next day, somebody uses the same idea and wins a Nobel Prize for it
or maybe you shy away from telling the girl you like that you like her, maybe
because you’re afraid about what the girl or the people will think. Well, f*ck
that, it ain’t the end of the world and believe me, carrying the burden of a
secret isn’t easy.
Step 6:
Be yourself:
Never try to change for anyone else. You are you for a
reason. If people can’t accept you the way you are, change the people, not
yourself. Your life is unique and too precious to waste on someone else’s
judgements and opinions. Examine yourself, do what you think is right for you,
be the person you were destined to be, and live a happy life. (This does not
apply for criminal activities. Do not try this at home.)
AND that my friends, is my guide to survival in life.
Unless you’re an Indian. In that case, forget everything
that I said, pick up your books and go study! You must become an engineer or a
doctor before you can speak for yourself.
