"Marks are the most important thing ever. If you have marks, you have the world"
~ Almost Every Indian Parent.
NO.
Marks are bullshit. They are numbers written on a piece of paper by some judgemental bitches we call examiners.
Just kidding. Marks are important but that's relative. I don't think marks are important. Marks are what you write on a certain day on a certain page of a certain paper of a certain subject which bestows people with the right to judge you.
Judging, is something so horrible, I mean, why do people judge? Even that is fine, but why judge someone over their marks? Oh, Sharmaji ke bete ko 40/40 aaya. Scholar hai. Arre! Mehtaji ke ladke ko 35/40 aaya, koi baat nai, sab topper nai bante.
India is a country where marks typically decide your place in the society.
You score anywhere between 80-90% you're above average
60-70%, you're average
below that, you're non-existent.
Okay fine, I don't disagree with the fact that marks are needed, it gives a criteria for you to qualify for a certain job or any employment opportunity but it shouldn't give people an opportunity to judge other individuals.
I believe that instead of marks, you should be graded for what you're good at in life.
This takes me back to the topic of our education system.
We as humans should understand the difference between knowledge and intelligence, and that marks do not connect the two. AT ALL.
So all of you out there who don't score marks or who can't, it's alright, life doesn't end there. If you have confidence, courage, talent and the will within you, the world is yours. You can achieve literally anything.
Marks will help you get a good job, look good in the society, get praise and a few more perks but that's about it.
At the end of the day, it's what you do as an individual. that matters and I strongly believe that you should do what fuels your drive.
Peace.
Thanks.
